: : : : I found an old tape drive and hooked it up to my computer. The computer wont autodetect on restart or through add/remove programs. Is there a driver or program that I have to use to access the drive? If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Tecmar's website seems to have dead links only and offers little help. thanks...

: : : If you're running WIN2K or WINXP, then you're out of luck. Neither TECMAR nor IOMEGA support the Ditto anymore. I've looked myself, and nobody even wants to know about DITTO's anymore.

: : I just found this site. It may be a solution for those of us who have the Ditto drives and now want to use them with Windows ME or Win2000

: : If anyone tries it pleas let me know how it works, or doesn't work.

: I think I found a solution!
: First off, at my work, we've got all W2K PRO machines. We use to be on NT4.0 long ago and thats when we used this old school parallel 10gb Ditto Professional drive for backups. Its been in storage ever since and I've recently pulled it out.

: I've got it hooked up to a WIN2K machine right now and I was able to get the latest IOMEGA ware to recognize it.

:
: I downloaded and installed 3 things from the IOMEGA site:
: 1. latest iobackup s/w (v4.4) for win2k
: 2. latest iomegaware s/w (v4.0.2) for win2k
: 3. ditto98 backup software

: I installed iobackup and iomegaware normally, but when installing ditto98, I installed it in the iomega directory but in a folder I called dubbed 'ditto98' (I'm not sure if this has any effect on how the program works completely - just thought it would be a safe thing to try out so it doesn't conflict with the newer iobackup s/w).

: rebooted.

: then went into:
: C>program files>Iomega>ditto98>PROGRAM
: double-clicked on 'DTIOM98.EXE' , and to my suprise the program came on - I thought an error message would pop up saying ditto98 is incompatible with W2K...but it didn't!

: I noticed that in the upper right field, it detected my parallel ditto drive (drive icon). I can pull down the menu and see my internal ZIP drive as well.

: I ran a test backup on a couple files, but it seems to initialize forever (past 10min) and it hasn't actually started backing up yet, and this is where I'm stuck at now.

: I'll let ya'll know if something changes even though no one is probably reading this thread as its a couple years old now...lol
