: : : I have had a Colorado T3000 tape backup drive for about 3 years. Until just recently, it worked fine. Just since Thanksgiving, it has taken longer and longer and longer to do a "full system backup". Most recently, it has taken more than 24 hours do back up and verify my full system.

: : : I have called HP for technical help, and they've been nice and acomodating, but they haven't got a clue what's wrong. I bought new tapes and I retensioned a tape 4 times (HP's way of cleaning the head)and it still takes more than a day to backup my system.

: : : I'd appreciate any help that anyone can offer me. Maybe I need a new backup system?

: : : Please write me at

: : : Thanks

: : OK, So what O/S are you running? What backup program are you running? What technology for your TD(ie. what tape type do you use?) How long time did it take before? What are you backing up? More info please... We cannot guess.

: Thanks for your response.

: Here is the information that I have:
: 1. Operating System is Windows 98
: 2. My back up program is HP Colorado Backup Version 6.0.
: 3. I am backing up onto Travan-3 Technology Tape (3.2 GB).
: 4. It used to only take between 2 and 3 hours to complete both the backup and the verify routine.
: Now, it takes 15 1/2 hours just to complete a full system backup WITHOUT the comparison.
: 5. I am doing a Full System Backup. Reading from my report, I backed up 16,266 files from 2 disk drives, C&D. There are 1,296,081,771 Bytes after compression--1,797,451,443 bytes before compression.

: The software I'm using came from HP. It has two "full system backup" programs on it. One says Automatic Full system Backup and the other is just Full System Backup. I'm afraid I don't know the difference, if there is any. It appears that the same boxes are checked for both routines.

: Whatever help you can offer is most appreciated.

No reports on such problems with CB6. Must be your system. Tried a cleaning tape? Must be a mechanical problem, - computers are fast, mechanics are slow - (re- and) winding the tape to correct position takes time. Does the tape (re-) wind forth and back for each block it writes or does the tape stop between writing blocks? ( Is it tape winding time or computer "thinking" time that slows the backup?
