: I have an IOMega Ditto 2 GB tape drive.
: Whenever I insert a tape the drive rewinds the tape and does not recognize the EOT mechanism and despools the tape.
: This happened to me a couple of years ago while this drive was still under warrantee and IOMega replaced it with a refurbished unit which has worked fine until now. The problem recently started again with my older 2G tapes and quickly went to my 3.7G tapes.
: The tapes are not destroyed and can easily be fixed (IOMega has the procedure on thieir web site) but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if a fix is known for it. The drive is out of warrantee so therefore I am not afraid to break something that is already broken. Hopefully it is only an adjustment that will allow the lights in side the drive to see the series of holes in the ends of the tape that signify EOT.
: Any responses would be greatly appreciated. At this point I am considering buying a new drive anyways but would appreciate saving the $$$ if I can.

: Thanks in advance.

The solution is just to clean out the dust from inside the drive. That is what Colorado told me and after I cleaned my drive the tapes stopped despooling.
