Hi,

I think that you may be interested in knowing what I did to make the PC talk again:

- Get driver from manufacturer:

1. Go to http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/. This is the PC manufacturer WEB site.
2. Do a search on '686';
3. Find 'VIA 686 sound driver (AC97)' on the list and downloaded the driver that fits the description;

- Reset BIOS:

4. Reset the 'sound blaster' to Enabled in the Integrated Peripheral setting (press del when booting the PC);

- Install driver:

5. Run the setup.exe in the downloaded folder called '686_512.zip';
6. Reboot the computer.

I have no idea how the support person know which sound driver the PC needs. I could not find the information on my User Manual for the PC. You may need to talk to the manuafacturer. The name of the board is on the motherboard itself. You can make a search on the web by that name. Good luck!
