I recently installed windows XP professional at home, and everything is working beautifully, except for the sound...
I have a Soundblaster PCI 128 soundcard (ct5803), and I already istalled the win2000 driver mentioned in this forum that should work with XP. However, I still have the same problem. I can hear the basic sounds, but it is distorted and scratchy and completely useless. If I try to play a song, like an mp3 file, I can't hear anything at all.

I have followed the troubleshooting guide, checking for hardware conflicts, volume level, lowered hardware acceleration to none for DirectX 8.1 and the soundcard/speakers. I have also set audio output to digital.
But the sound is still f*cked!
I'm suspecting that DirectX DirectSound might not be working as it stopped responding altogether on my last installation, but I have just reistalled everything and so far it hasn't given me any problems.

I need some help here, and I REALLY hope there's someone out there who can tell me what to do!!! Please!!
