What hardware is installed on your system? I have seen this device listed under "Other Devices" when someone installs a new O/S and has an old combo modem/audio card (Rockwell Riptide, etc.) installed in a PCI slot. If the new O/S doesn't have the correct drivers at all, you will find that your sound card and/or modem don't work or have limited functionality. On the other hand if you installed an O/S upgrade over a previous installation, chances are that the old drivers for the card were used. If so, the modem and sound card should work - you just have an unknown device that the O/S thinks it has found.

If the motherboard has a built-in audio capability that was disabled before, or if there is another function that it thinks your sound card has, it will put an entry in your System Properties applet under "Other Devices" with a generic name like what you have quoted below. Unless it is using resources or tying up an IRQ, (double click the computer at the top of the list of devices in System Properties and scroll down the list of IRQ's to see if your unknown device is listed) then it is probably benign.

#1. If everything is working correctly, you can just leave it alone and forget about it.

#2. If things aren't working and this is the result of an old card, you might try looking on the website of the manufacturer of the card or of the manufacturer of the computer to see if they have a driver you can download.

#3. If things are working, but it is tying up or sharing an IRQ, open the properties of the PCI Multimedia device and check off the box that says "Disable in this hardware profile". When you reboot, there will be a red "X" through the icon for the device and it will no longer be sharing the IRQ.

Does that help?
