I think it has something to do with the DirectX ver 8, it occurred for me after I installed the ver 8.
I have tried to install the asp4wave.drv and .vxd file from my original sound card CD-ROM with no success. I have a Turtle Montego I sound card, but I have seen others on the internet with the same problem, but with Aureal Vortex card.
