I tried this for XP but it didn't work. Anyone one else get it going?

: Installing the IBM IdeaScan 2000 on a computer with Windows 2000 Professional:

: Before I start I should say that I'm running an IBM NetVista S40p with an Intel Pentium III 866 MHz processor and a factory load of Windows 2000 Professional. I had a two day battle with the monster until I was able to tame the silicon silliness and install the IBM IdeaScan 2000 USB Scanner.

: IBM doesn't seem to support the IBM IdeaScan 2000 with Windows 2000 Professional so I started digging. I noticed that Windows 2000 tried to automatically load a driver from a company called "Primax". It seems that IBM has licensed Primax Electronics ( to build the IBM IdeaScan 2000 Flatbed Scanner for IBM distribution. I downloaded a Driver called "pismusbeng.exe" from the support page of the primax web site ( and installed it...I plugged in the USB cable and BINGO! the driver installed itself as "Flatbed Scanner 7 (english)"

: The Scanner will work as-is after this Driver installation but to get the Full IBM experience you'll want to install the original IBM software...You'll have to use the following tricks though to work around the fact that the IBM installation software doesn't support Windows 2000.

: You'll need three (3) things.

: 1) The original IBM IdeaScan 2000 Installation CD

: 2) The Windows 95/98 Driver installation program for the previous IBM Color Flatbed Scanner just called "IBM IdeaScan" FlatBed scanner (The IBM IdeaScan 2000) was and upgrade. The original drivers can be found in the support section at IBM's website. Download the file "scanv237.exe" and then run it to decompress an installation package.

: 3) The Windows 95/98 Driver installation program for the current IBM IdeaScan 2000 Flatbed Scanner. This driver can also be found in the support section of IBM's Website. Download the file "id2000en.exe" and the run it to decompress "ibm2000.exe"

: Now the fun part...

: Run the original IBM IdeaScan 2000 setup program from the original CD. Skip through the opening screens ignoring the warnings that USB IdeaScan 2000 is not supported. When the installation program asks if you'd like to install a different scanner choose YES and then pick "Other" from under the "TWAIN Device" Group. Finish installing the software.

: Once complete run "Setup.exe" from the scanv237 installation package.

: Then run the ibm2000.exe program to activate the "IdeaScan 2000 Simple Access Interface"

: One last thing...The scanv237 program installs a phantom scanner. Go into "Add/Remove Programs" in your control Panel and remove the entry for "IBM Scanner". DO NOT remove the program entries for "Flatbed Scanner" or "IBM IdeaScan 2000 Scanner Driver".

: That's It...I've tried it several times and it works each time.

: To Recap...

: 1) Make sure that Scanner is plugged in but DISCONNECT the USB Cable.

: 2) Download the Primax Scanner driver "pismusbeng.exe", The IBM IdeaScan scanner driver "scanv237.exe" and the IBM IdeaScan 2000 scanner driver "id2000en.exe". Run the two IBM files to decompress the drivers.

: 3) Run the Primax driver "pismusbeng.exe"

: 4) Shut-down and Restart your computer.

: 5) Plug in the Scanner USB cable and allow the drivers to initialize and load.

: 6) Shut-down and Restart your computer.

: 7) Run the Original Setup CD from the IBM IdeaScan 2000 Scanner. When asked if you'd like to install another scanner because the IdeaScan 2000 isn't supported choose YES. Then select the "Other" under the "TWAIN Devices" heading. Continue loading your original software.

: 8) Run Setup.exe from the Scanv237 package. This will install a phantom IBM Scanner.

: 9) Run IBM2000.exe to activate and initialize the simple access buttons.

: 10) Remove the "IBM Scanner" Entry in the "Add/Remove Programs" dialog box in the control panel.

: One last thing...When you configure the simple access buttons go to the last tab and select "show all programs" check-box. This will allow you to associate any of your favorite programs with the simple access buttons instead of the factory programmed associations to the PaperPort software.

: Best of Luck.
