: : I was getting a similar error as indicated in the earlier messages. Upon a more detailed search of the HP website I found the solution. Apparently in our zeal to have the system start up faster I had disabled a few of the required HP ScanJet startup files by diabling them via MSCONFIG.
You can check out the details here at this HP web page http://www.hp.com/cposupport/scanners/support_doc/bps03710.html

HP Precisionscan Software - HPPSAPPS Has Caused an Invalid Page Fault in HPGDTT.DLL, or HPPSAPPS Has Caused an Invalid Page Fault in HPPSAPPS.EXE Errors When Using HP Precisionscan LTX

ISSUE: In Windows 98 or in Windows Me, an HP Scanjet 3400c or an HP Scanjet 4300c scanner is found and a message prompting for the HP Scanjet scanner software CD appears. When HP Precisionscan LTX is opened, the error message, "HPPSAPPS has called an invalid page fault in module hpgdtt.dll," or "HPPSAPPS has called an invalid page fault in module Hppsapp.exe," appears.

SOLUTION 1: Do the following for Windows 98:

In MSCONFIG.EXE make sure that HPSCANMonitor and StillImageMonitor are checked. Restart the system, and reinstall the HP Precisionscan LTX software.

Close the error message.
Click Start.
Click Run, and type, MSCONFIG.EXE.
Click OK.
Select Startup.
Check the boxes titled, HPSCANMonitor and StillImageMonitor.
NOTE: IF StillImageMonitor is not listed, insert the Windows 98 installation CD-ROM, and find the stimon.exe file using System File Checker. Copy it to the windows\system folder. Add the stimon.exe shortcut to the Startup Group. Click Start, Settings, Taskbar, and Start Menu. Click the Start Menu Programs tab. Click Add. Browse to the windows\system folder, select stimon.exe, and click Open. Click Next. From the Create Shortcut window, select Startup Program Group from the Select Program Folder, and click Next. Click Finish.

Click OK.
Restart the computer.
Reinstall the HP Precisionscan LTX scanner software.
NOTE: The install browser may state that the software is already installed; continue with the installation.

Restart the computer. The HP Precisionscan LTX scanner will open without the error message.
SOLUTION 2: Do the following for Windows Me:

In MSCONFIG.EXE, ensure that StillImageMonitor is checked. Restart the system, and reinstall the HP Precisionscan LTX software.

Close the error message.
Click Start
Click Run, and type, MSCONFIG.EXE.
Click OK.
Click Startup.
Check the box titled, StillImageMonitor
Click Apply, OK, and Yes to restart.
NOTE: IF StillImageMonitor is not listed, go to the Start and Search. Select For Files and Folders, which will bring up the Search Results box. In the Name field, type, STIMON. Make sure the Look In line has the following: Local Hard Drives (C:). Select Search. In the Results window to the left, STIMON should be displayed. Make sure it is in the C:\Windows\System folder and that the file size is 28KB. Left-click STIMON and its information will appear in the box above. Close the Search Results window. Go to Start, and Shut Down, and choose to Restart the Computer.

Reinstall the HP Precisionscan LTX scanner software.
Restart the computer. The HP Precisionscan LTX scanner will open without the error message.
SUMMARY: These two error messages are caused by the same file(s) being either missing, not enabled, or of the wrong version or size.
