I don’t know if this functions for all the computers, but I have made my scanner 640P to function IN MY COMPAQ 5625LA with “MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP for HOME”.
I will tell you what have I done:
1) First install the software Mirascan V.3.42, you can download it from Acer’s page.
2) I uninstalled the software “Mirascan V.3.42”
3) I installed only one scanner selecting the driver for “Acer colorflatbed_5”, it’s for USB but you must do it.
4) Then, restart your computer and install a SCSI device, no matter if you don’t have one, just install the “Adaptec AHA-151X/AHA-152X OR AIC6260 OR AIC6360 (no pnp)” then restart your computer.
5) Now, this is the most critical part. Open de System Manager and the go to the Device Manager, select the Scanner “ColorFlatbed_5” and double click it, then select the tab Drivers and select the button change driver, the new driver will be the next color flatbed scanner driver in the list. This is the order in which you may change the driver.
a) Color Flatbed_5
b) Color Flatbed_13
c) Color Flatbed_16
d) Color Flatbed_19
e) Color Flatbed_20
f) Color Flatbed_21
g) Color Flatbed_23

NOTE: that you don’t have to add new devices, just change the driver for the Scanner “ColorFlatbed_5” you installed before; you must change the driver and accept the changes, then close the device manager and star again from step number 5. Do this until you have changed to all the Scanner Drivers listed before.

6) Uninstall the Adaptec SCSI AHA-151X/AHA-152X OR AIC6260 OR AIC6360 (no pnp) device.
7) Once you have done that and you have change to all the drivers listed previously, install the device listen at EPPSCANNER - Color Flatbed device.
8) Open the Image device screen from the control panel, there will be the Color Flatbed device listed, double click it and click on the TEST button. Then Restart your computer. And that’s all.
That’s all, at least, my Acer Scanner 640P is now functional. Don’t blame me if yours don’t.
