: I have quite the same problem: I recently moved from Windows 98 to Win 2K Pro. My HP scanjet 3200C (with parallel connection) is NOT recognized anymore. I tried to use the driver provided by the HP website. The installation goes fine, but when I go and look for Imaging Devices I can see nothing.
: I know it's a known issue, but maybe someone can help with any idea/solution.
: thanks

Finally after trying for a few days, I manage to solve this problem and now it's running fine in my Win2k.

1. First u need to have the CD of PrecisionScan, which u can download at:
http://www.wf-computers.com/downloads/Scanners/Hewlett_Packard/5300C/
2. remove the imaging device from device manager
3. add hardware and get the driver from the CD root directory or Windows included.
4. install the software in APP folder in the CD
5. Run SJ590en downloaded from HP Website:
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/scanners/software/sj590en.exe.html
6. Should be ok already. (step 2-4 could be of different sequence), I couldn't recall exactly what sequence.

Hopefully it does what it did for me. :)
Good luck guys.
