: : Please help.

: : I can not get my UMAX 2100U scanner to work with Win2000 Professional. The UMAX support site is absolutely useless. It says something about them hoping to support Win200 by Feb 2000, its now Sept 2001 !

: : thanx, David

: David, and all the other thousands of people having a problem with this:

: 1) detatch the scanner and uninstall all UMAX suplied software and drivers for it that you've tried
: 2) reboot
: 3) get vistascan 3.53U (you can get it at UMAX' website)
: 4) get the vistascan 3.55 updater (you can get it at UMAX' website)
: 5) install vistascan 3.53U
: 6) reboot
: 7) install the updater
: 8) reboot
: 9) move the file PV8630.sys from \winnt\system32 where the idiots at UMAX have it to \winnt\system where it needs to be
: 10) turn on your scanner, and plug the USB cable into your computer
: 11) re-install all the UMAX-supplied software you want to use -- if you're using their CD, make sure you do a custom install and de-select driver installation!
: 12) reboot

: Your scanner should work as advertised. Mine does! After three days of screwing around with it, it finally works! WooHoo!

My brother gave me this scanner and he was running WIN98. I am run Win2000 PRO and spent 2 days trying to get this freaking thing to work on my machine. I finally gave up on Umax's website support and did a search on Google (win2000 + umax2100u) and found this fix. Trust it!!! It really works and I was gonna throw the scanner out. Thanks for the info and God bless you!!!!
