Can you please help me. Reading through user comments on the web I see that LOTS of people have problems getting the 5100C scanner to work under WIN98. I have just purchased a new computer with WIN 98 installed and, no matter which procedure I use, I find the scanner installation disk does not properly install the drivers. My previous computer (sold) was WIN95 driven and I did not have a problem.

The symptoms with WIN98 are

 After the installation is complete the system locks up during reboot and I have to reset my PC - if I choose to reboot later myself and I leave the CD in the drive as per HP instructions the so called transfer of drivers does not happen – it keeps asking for the WIN98 system disk but this does not contain the HP5100C drivers

 Although the scanner icon appears in the bottom toolbar and the HP Precision Scan programs appear in the popup “programs” menu. Each time I try to use the programs the message pops up to say that the scanner cannot be accessed because another application is using the scanner software but this is not true. The parallel port test works fine with printer connected works fine but this obviously inbuilt and does not use the scanner drivers on the PC

I read one possibel solution is to hold down the control key during the installation procedure. Have not tried this. Do you know if it works.

Did you know the correct drivers to use for WIN98 operation? – If yes, can you please download a copy of the drivers file(s) that you had success with.

Kind regards

Phil Kirkpatrick
