: The GT 5000 is not plug and play, you need the correct drivers, the scanner does not work in either windows nt 4 or windows 2000 epson have not written any drivers for it to work.

: GO into your bios by pressing delete key, locate the printer port under the peripherals section.

: The port should change to ecp or epp/ecp
: press esc key then save by pressing f10

: Now this scanner comes with its own paralel card
: , a friend of mine once said that hers would only work from its own card. My GT5000 works from my printer port as well.

: In the epson setup software you have to tell the software the port address of the scanner i.e 28f etc.

: If the address is wrong then the scanner does not work. Again check the address in your bios, this should be set to 278 / 3BC / 378, you should be able to adjust the settings in your bios.

: check your cable as a last resort, it may be faulty.

: you should find it by searching at the link supplied

: : I cannot seem to get any joy with this parallel scanner. I plug the scanner in and connect it to my printer port, then switch the scanner on. The lights inside flash and the "head" moves, then the two green lights come on at the front. I then switch my PC on (Windows 98) and boot up Windows. My PC does not find the scanner or report finding any new hardware. I download the GT-5000 drivers off the internet (Epson II scan software is included) and run the set up program. I then go into the TWAIN driver and it has not found the scanner. I have tried setting it to "Bi-parallel" in here but to no avail .. I'm sure that my ECP printer port is bi-directional so it should work. I have also tried running the "Add New Hardware Wizard", which causes the scanner to bump into life half way through the search, but the wizard does not report finding any new hardware. I have alos tried manually telling it I have a new imaging device and pointing the browser to my epson EPSCAN.INF file on the driver disk but this just say "This does not contain info about your hardware".

: : At my wits end, does anyone know if this is a plug & play scanner .. has anyone set one up before? Should Win98 auto-tetect it? ... better still DOES ANYONE HAVE A MANUAL?

: : Thanks,
