Open list of running tasks (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and one by one end tasks and then try the printer. Using the "test connection" worked as an easy way of testing for the error for me. In my case it turned out to be my Firewall (Ontrack) that was causing the problem. Others have found scanners and antivirus programs to be the problem. Apparently it is always a conflict with some other program running in the background. Hope this helps.
