I own an NEC SupserScript 870 and recently installed Windows XP Home. I too was experiencing the exact same problems noted in this thread (slowness, reduced dpi, etc.). I found a fairly decent explanation for and solution to this problem located at the link URL listed below for www.annoyances.org. The recommended solution on that thread is to go to the QMS Minolta website (http://www.qms.com/support/current_printers/win_xp.html) and download and install the driver for the QMS Minolta Pageworks 8L printer driver for Windows 2000/XP. This driver will give you 600 dpi and 6-8 ppm (most of the time) print speed. However, the advanced features of the "command center" are no longer available. I guess this is a small tradeoff we must accept. I have successfully installed this driver on my computer and I can confirm that that I am now printing significantly faster (like the old days) and there is a noticeable increase in dpi print quality.
