Try this sequence:
1. Boot your PC when the printer is off.
2. With the printer still off, start the "Minolta PageWorks/Pro 1100L Status Display".
3. When the status display is open, (and displaying your printer is off, or the cable is not connected), turn the printer on.
4. The display will probably change to out of paper.
5. Ignore the out of paper message and try printing.

I am not 100% if that works all the time as I just installed Win2000 a couple of days ago.

This is what I had to do under WinMe with the NEC driver to get it working. The Minolta driver and Win2000 seems to have the same quirk.
