: My black ink cartridge was empty for about 2 months
: and i didn't use my printer for a month. When i now
: try to print it starts to print coloured lines instead
: of text and craphics. I tried to clean
: printhead (where the ink cartrides go) whit alcohol,
: but it didn't solve my problem. Could there be still
: dried ink in ? Do i have to buy new printhead or a
: new printer ? Both ink cartridges are (now) brand new.

Reply;
Most ink used by Canon are water based, so if you where to clean them, use water.

The best way to keep the ink and heads in good order if they are not to be used for a long time is;

1) Place some small gravel (Aquarium etc.) into a jar ( about 2cm or 3/4" )large enough to hold your ink and head.

2) Pour water into the jar till the leavel is half way up the gravel.

3) Place the ink and head (some tape on the bottom of the head) into the jar and replace the lid.

The humidity in the jar should help keep your ink and head in good order.

Tony
