: : : Having trouble with Kodak's driver for their Diconix 701 portable printer. Under Windows 95B, the graphics print OK but any text appears garbled or double-struck.
: : : Have changed several of the printer's internal setup options with no luck. At a DOS level (using a DOS word processor), the text prints just fine. Have tried this printer with two PC's that have WIN 95 as an operating system (one laptop and one desktop) and any printing done through Windows 95 has this garbled, off-center text but acceptable graphics. This one has me stumped - Kodak's webpage has nothing to offer.
: : : Has anyone experienced this kind of problem? Is there a "fix"?

: : Here's the latest: Tried this printer (and Kodak's driver) on a 486 PC that was running Windows 3.1 and it printed everything perfectly - text included. And the investigation goes on.....

I figured it out. The drivers on the Kodak site do not work. They are for Windows 16 bit from 1992/1993. The solution is to use the start-up sequence listed on the bottom of the printer to use either the Epson FX85 or IBM Proprinter emulation. Power up holding the online button to go into setup and the printer tells you the rest. Once the emulation is set use the corresponding native Windows driver. Both the Epson FX-85 and IBM proprinter settings seem to work just fine. Only problem is that the text is a bit small. According to the comments that I read on the web, this is because the 180 printer has a lower resolution that the other two printers. I can live with this, however, since I otherwise have full functionality and can always play with the fonts if I have to.
