We were getting the hpfvls09 error with an HP820cse after the installation of Office XP Professional.
Changed printers (with another 820cse) and cables, and problem persisted. Did some research and found our answer at Microsoft at:;EN-US;q282599
with Tech. Document Number: Q282599 which basically deals with a file named ctfmon.exe which starts (courtesy of Office XP) and runs in the background at boot and if disabled during a windows session in the task manager, will restart whenever an Office XP application is activated. This file assists Office XP in handling input through devices like speech recognition and handwriting tablets.
The detailed 3 step directions to properly stop/disable ctfmon.exe are contained within this Tech. Document mentioned above, and once applied to our case, stopped the hpfvls09.exe error.
