Try all the usual suspects,
limit your fonts to less than 100 (they are all loaded in RAM from boot up)
Disable any programs running in the background that msconfig or registry is laoding at boot, you only need explorer ans systray running
Update ALL drivers to their latest versions and include DirectX and IE in the list.
Delete any temp files and crap on your drive then un-install all the programs you dont use often.
Then and only then run scandisk to fix any bad clusters and defrag the drive.
These will definately improve things even if the pronlem lies elsewhere.
