I've got an 8485DVD, and the display chip is an 8Mb S3 Inc. Savage/MX w/MV.
For drivers, head out to www.s3graphics.com

The sound chip is an ESS Allegro, but I don't know where you'd get drivers for this.

There are no LAN drivers for it, because it doesn't have integrated LAN. I don't know if good ol' PC world told you that the RJ45 port was a LAN - if they did, they are lying or stupid (or both!) - its purely a 56k modem port, namely an ESS ES56CVM-PI Data Fax Voice Modem.

Also, perhaps you could try Hi-Grade, who provide support for Advent laptops I think - they may be able to provide you with copies of the recovery and driver CDs.

P.S. If you're interested, you can patch the DVD (Matshita SR-8175) Bios for multi-region play. Start at www.inmatrix.com for info on firmware and links to the firmware pages. You'll also need DriveInfo to identify the drive and firmware release - you can get this from www.visualdomain.net (as well as DvdGenie to enable multi-region playback via your software).

Hope the above helps and good luck.
