I just went through the same thing, and here's how I escaped: 1)reload the NEC driver. If you don't have the disk go to:
http://www.nectech.com/css/index.htm
2)Choose not to restart your computer.
3)Uninstall the driver via: Start\Programs\NEC SuperScript\NEC SuperScript Uninstall. See:
http://support.nectech.com/index.htm
4)Now restart your computer to see if it worked.
5)Reselect your new printer as default.
