: Hi there, Is this a Windows file "hal.dll."? My Norton Win. Doc saya it's missing and this all came to light when I installed software for my sony dsc-75 camera and then ran a system check....Norton says sony sys. can't accsess this missing file?

Hello! exactly the same thing happened to me a year ago (my camera was a Sony DSC70, predecessor of yours) under exactly the same circumstances. My OS is Win 98 SE.
Ever since then the same error message has come up every time I've run System Check. Apart from an occasional freeze on shut-down, there seems to be no fault with the PC operation at all.
I rang Sony and they told me it didn't matter! It annoys me, though, and I hope somebody here can kindly explain to us why it happens! I have searched for Hal.dll on my Wondows Installation disk without success.
Best of luck to both of us, Meg.
