: I also am having this problem...Chef, according to the Drive info 110, there is no region protection for the system. Could Windows have a region protector running which could cause the problem? If anyone finds how to fix the problem, please let me know! It is quite frustrating to buy or rent a DVD only to find out it won't even play!
: Thanks

Ok here is what needs to be done just place the DVD inside the drive and switch off the PC after a day when you boot the PC if DVD drive is enabled in BIOS for OS loading then by chance mind it this doesnt happen all the time but luckily the ROM is read and the encoding is read correctly now open the DVD player software and dont click on any player buttons(especially no ejects) just press the play button the laser seeker will start loading the data correctly.
I am not sure why this freaky problem occurs but I had some one suggesting that if a MPEG-2 layer decompression player is downloaded and installed in the system it may conflict with the overlay function of your display drivers totally making the DVD unreadable sounds unbeleivable but seems to make some sense, also the SAMSUNG SD-608 might have a factory setting of Phase-II DVD lockout which needs to be unlocked but for this SAMSUNG has to be notified about this problem and they can help on this matter I am in the process of contacting them about this lockout problem so lets see what turns up and by the way I use a POWERDVD player and this has the same problem you guys have been talking about.
