Ok, I have bought this camera, and got it to work with Portuguese Windows 98/2000. Here's how it works:

Find a computer running Windows 2000/XP. It should be able to read the folders. If not, install japanese support, copy the "twain driver for lv-10.exe" to another folder that do not have japanese characters. Open it on your pc and install.

About batteries, after the batteries that came with it died, I bought rechargeable NI-MH batteries. They are able to store a lot of charge before running out. In fact, I once filled it's entire memory even using flash.

Now, I've got a different problem. I can't install it on Windows XP. Anyone has some advice?

Also, anyone noticed how the camera performs miserably under low light conditions? Taking indoor or night pictures with it is definitely an interesting experience...
