First of all the other guy who replied to this is a moron for saying the sims is not a good game, and second of all he has no clue what he is talking about. follow these steps to ensure no more blue screen errors. Your main problem is your audio/video drivers are not up-to-date.
steps:
0. does your computer meet the minimum requirements of cpu of 233mhz, 32mb RAM, do you have at least 300 mb hard disk space AFTER you installed the game.
1. shutdown(not restart)your computer and turn it back on. then run scandisk and autofix all errors, then run disk defragmenter, defrag your hard disk, then restart computer.
2. get current version of directX 8.0 you can get a copy at: http://download.microsoft.com/download/winme/Update/8.0a/W9XMe/EN-US/DX80eng.exe
3. shutdown(not restart) your computer and turn it back on.
4. go to compaq's driver support page at: http://web14.compaq.com/falco/sp_list.asp
and fill in your computer info then when you get to your computers driver page choose whichever drivers apply to the hardware you have installed on your system for Audio, Display, and System software.
5. download the drivers and install them. shutdown(not restart) your computer and turn it back on.
6. run the sims game. if blue screen still appears with error message then check the internet for a new patch or update for the sims game. if none found then go to the sims website and look for addittional help there here is the link to there: http://thesims.ea.com/us/support/index.html
7. still getting the blue screen, then you need to do the most drastic thing, uninstall the game, shutdown computer, reinstall sims game, shutdown again, then turn back on and rerun game. if still blue screen...repackage the game and try to take it back to store of purchase and pray you will get a refund.
8. before buying a game again, download and install a demo version first, that way you'll know for sure if you will have any issues with the full version. later and good luck, kozehameha

: When I attempt to play "The Sims" on my Presario 5600i with Windows98 installed, I get a blue screen with this exception error message:
: 'A fatal exception error 0E has occurred at 0028:DB96AE93 in VXD Asp4Wave(01) + 00014553. The current application will be terminated.
: * Press any key to terminate the current application.
: * Press CONTROL+ALT+DELETE again to restart your computer. You will lose any unsaved information in all applications.
: Press any key to continue'
: What do I need to do to correct this? Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
