you need to use a crossover cable instead of the regular rj-45. Its needed when you are only networking two computers.

: : : : I installed my Winbond W89C940 into my pc and now in windows XP it keeps saying that there is a network cable unplugged when there isn't.... is this a driver problem??

: :
: : You prolly have the win xp drivers installed? and you're using a coaxial cable with bnc connector.

: : Those winxp drivers assume that you only have an rj-45 connector in use, the newest drivers from winbond allows you to change the connector type.
: : Iam sorry that i cannot give you a link to the drivers, since the winbond site doesnt seem to respond, but it's there.
