I have done it under Win9x and Unix-systems within the network card setup !
I have changed the MAC Address for cards of D-Link and 3-COM
(for specific models ask you computer dealer)

yes, often you have a simple config program for your NIC (I/O addr, IRQ, ... and
also different MAC address !)
Under most OS (Win9x, WinNT and Linux) you could change within the network card setup.
The same for professional - means commercial - unix systems ...
