The .vxd files get wiped out when you try to install drivers and it doesnt work. If you skip file or press OK the .vxd files get deleted or something like that, where they are nowhere to be found. What I do is after installing Windows 9x, I copy all the .CAB files into a new folder called WIN98 on the C: drive. I create the folder first then copy the files from the CDROM. These are the driver files. From what you are saying, you have already lost the .vxd files. You will have to reinstall windows. It happens to me alot because the damn PnP doesnt work worth a darn. If you reload the 9x you recover the missing files. I talked to a colleague today and he removes any and all drivers for the hardware, then removes the hardware. he boots up and installs the drivers without any hardware installed. Later he installs the hardware. Sometimes this works....
