: Installing/Upgrading to "Windows XP" on my personal computer resulted in compatability issues with my modem (NetoDragon 56K Voice Modem), ultimately rendering the "brand-spankin' new" Operating System unable to recognize the "only" onboard Modem. Boy, was I happy! Now, I'm far from what you'd call "computer-savy" but, from the "Compatability Summary", I could gather only, that "XP" refuses support software and products provided by "Cheeper", unaffiliated Vendors. As did seem to be the case, I leared via an extremely vague "Notification". It made mention about not supporting it, followed quite quickly by advice toward the seemingly inocient remedy of simply logging onto the Product-Support Website for required updates, once the "Installation" was COMPLETE.... ...Ah, the Magic word! Well, the good news was the OS was fast, fast, fast! The bad news was that the magic word "Complete" meant alot of things. It meant uninstalling Win98 and discarding all "unessassary" files. By "Unneccessary", they also meant any "Unsupported" data; like the data needed to opertate the modem in order to use the internet, to aquire the online updates...... So I tryed everything I could to deetect that modem but nothing could undo this diaster. Finally, I gave up all hope and angrily decided to uninstall "WinXP". Turns out, there's a little "unmentioned" "Back-up Protocol" in "XP" that keeps a copy of the unistaled prior OS, "Just In Case", your an idiot, like me! Thank God, but I'm still trying to fing the solution, so I can enoy my "new" OS, and still use my "Cheep" modem!....I need to pick the right brain, a smart brain, not mine!!! Hopefully, that's you. I would sicerely appreciate someone shedding a little light on this for me. Thanks, Sam
