I am having an aweful time trying to get my new optical mouse working. I had Windows ME on my computer and then I had to reformat and install Windows 98(first edition). I bought a new optical mouse from compusa. I think the mouse is a generic compusa mouse. It was in a compusa box. To make a long story short. I loaded the drivers off of the floppy that came with the mouse. My computer locks up when it is loading. When I go into safe mode and remove the driver and restart the computer works again. I can still use this new mouse with the default driver, BUT I cannot use the auto scroll feature in the 3d games that I play. The fuctionality of the mouse in Windows is fine, but as soon as I load quake 3 UT, I cannot use the auto scroll feature. This is extrememly horrible, because 50% of my time on the computer is spent on that damn game.

I have checked the bootlog.txt and the failures are listed as follows:

ndis2sup.vxd FAILED

sdvxd FAILED

nuwave.drv FILE NOT FOUND

AS far as I can tell these failures are pertaining to the network and soundcard which are working just fine. I find myself at a roadblock:-(

I have reloaded, unloaded and loaded different drivers over and over. There has to be a simple solution. PLEASE HELP ME.

SIDE NOTE: When I load the drivers on the disk that the mouse came with.....The mouse works fine. I can even restart my computer and it work good, even in games. AS SOON as I shut down then turn back on it seems to reset what ever error I originally had and BOOM I am back at square one. It is definitely a very bizarre problem, but a reoccuring one.

Any help,
