The driver that comes with the initial Windows 2000 disk is correct (hence the Intel updates do nothing). However, Windows 2000 requires that the 82371 USB Controller has an assigned IRQ. This is typically done in the BIOS. Look under PnP or advanced settings. On the Award BIOS there is a specific setting "Assign IRQ to USB" which should be set to enabled.
