I've seen this happen when using logitech drivers- any mouse movement is like moving and clicking randomly. (You can easily loose files this way)

My solution was to remove the logitech drivers and use the mouse as a standard 2 button mouse, but you could also try using the microsoft intellipoint software.

You can't get the full version at MS, but I found a copy here:
