Long winded questions are boring so I'll keep it breif...

I am running Win XP; IDE1 master is an 8.4GB HDD, IDE1 slave is a DVD player. I have installed to IDE2 master a
new Maxtor(4D040H2)40Gb and connected the IDE2 slave to a CD writer. Jumpers on the back are set accordingly.

Win XP boots up and recoignises the devices at the start up. However, Win XP has not assigned a drive letter to the new hard drive albeit it has kept the assigned drive letters for the original hard drive(C), DVD player(D) and CD writer(E).

Why is this? and how do I correct it?

thanks for your help,
Tesla

ps Happy New Year.
