Turn your ATA mode 5 back on and ditch the PCI 128, I had the same problems, thought it was time for a change so bought an 'Audigy', sheer perfection. Your views on VIA 4 in 1 drivers are uncommon, try the latest(the latency patch is not a VIA product, so dont use it)version 1437(a) and also install the IDE tool and AGP miniport driver, you will change your mind I think.
