: I got a crashed 30G IBM Deskstar hardisk , the fault is in the mechanics inside, so there is not way to recover the data unless I open it and move the disk to annother similar hardisk.I know the garanty will be
: void if I open it but that's a risk I have to take.
: My question is : will it work if I move the disk
: from the crashed one to annother similar hardisk
: (IBM Destart 40G ) ? that's opening 2 hardisk in order
: to save one !

If your data are valuable consider a data recovery service; a list is posted on most HDD maker's web sites.

BEFORE you tear into your HDD, TRY to revive it - 2many ways at:

If you get the drive going - get your files ASAP.

Your probability of successfully making one working driv from two drives is LOW, if that good so it MUST be your LAST RESORT before the trash can. Cleanliness is one important issue (use powder-free latex gloves - second choice: lint-free photographic gloves). Consider making a small clean room like a chemist's glove boz with a small HEPA filter. Heads may stick if they touch so keep them apart. Physical alignment is important and may not be a "mass production" setting (may depend on individual physical characteristics of the drive). IF you do get the hybrid drive going - get your data and run! The drive may work for years but probably won't - dust will kill it eventually if not sooner - depends on how clean you can keep the platters and heads.

Good Luck,
