: Need some advice on how to wipe out the whole harddisk. Currently on w2k Pro with ntfs. Thanks.

Find a pseudo low level format utility on your HDD maker's web site and use it (MAY be included as a function in the maker's Diagnostic Utility). A pseudo low level formatter will write zeroes to every user accessible spot on the HDD, erasing EVERYTHING accessible (this is a good thing to do if you are selling or donating a disk drive). After erasing the HDD, format and perform a surface scan, preferably Read/Write but do what you can (MAY be a function in the maker's Diagnostic Utility). If you have bad spots track HDD surface quality frequently until you can tell that it is changing or not - if bad spots are increasing you should anticipate replacing the drive.

Good Luck,
Henry
