That really depends on how large the drive is, some of the latest Bios' can still only handle a 32Gb HDD, many have been re-coded to see 80Gb. Further you must use the correct data ribbon for the ATA type and your motherboard must support it. If you dont have an ATA100 Ide controller dont use the 80 strand ribbon, the drive will only run at the slowest of any component and you can get 'icompatible' messages from the BIOS or a refusal to detect. If you only have a std Udma 33 controller you must use 40 strand ribbon for it to operate.
