Your BIOS are unable to see big HD's.
You may flash a newer version of the BIOS, but it may not help in some old motherboards, you have to try to find out, but don't forget to copy your old BIOS so you can revert in case it does not work.
One safer solution is to try a Software overlay like Ontrack Disk Manager ( or install an EIDE controller card, although I've not seen PCI EIDE cards lately...

: I just bought a 40gb fujitsu hard drive (IDE) - my bios freezes on auto-detect and doesn't recognise it at all. I have a fairly ancient K6-2 (350mhz), with the following bios details:

: BIOS Date: 10/27/99
: BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
: BIOS ID: 10/27/1999-ALADDIN5-2A5KKJ1EC
: BIOS Eval: V.542B/542BS B06 12-16-1998
: Chipset: ALi M1541 rev 4

: Fujitsu : MPG3xxxAT 40gb

: have no idea where\what program\driver etc. I require to get this to work and I'm nervous about bios flash. Shall I take the h\d back?

: Please help!
