: I am an old mainframe guy. (part of flashing lites and switches) I have been reading for two days.
: Now I am more confused than before I started.

: The drive is in slave mode...second drive on cable...spins up...
: bios autodetect does not & hangs
: manual setup does not & hangs
: Do I?
: Flash new bios?
: Install IBM Drive Manager Software?
: Stand on my head & pull my left ear?
: Give up & buy new computer?

: I have only found horror stories, myths, and half truths regarding the installation of this drive. Surely there is someone out there who has successfully installed one...

: Would he (she) please step forward and tell us how they did it?

: Thanks,

I think you are on the right track - your BIOS is probably limited to HDD support up to about 32GB (but maybe only 8.4GB). You can spend a lot of time and search the QDI web site for BIOS updates and Release Notes; the Release NOtes will tell you if the particular BIOS update solvves your problem. If the update DOES NOT solve your problem then DO NOT "update" the BIOS - NOTHING to gain and BIOS to lose if you do.

Quickest, surest, safest way to get large HDD support is to get an ATA/66 expansion card - it will support HDDs up to about 128GB.

Good Luck,
