Depending on the OS you want to install, change the first boot device in BIOS to CD rom and pop the CD in the drive, restart and you can use it to partition and format a drive to install that system on. But Henry is, as usual, quite right the ideal thing to do, before you remove the drive(or after you put it back and boot it)is to go to device manager and simply highlight the system devices and choose remove, this will disable all of your settings and may even result in a black screen and no response, certainly you wont be able to use the mouse or keyboard, so just this once, just turn it off(the drives heads will already be parked at an LZ so you wont crash). Now when you boot it in the new PC it will detect all of its resources and install drivers where possible.I have done this many times with a reasonable degree of success, ideally you should blank it and install anew.
