: I would like to replace my 6 gig laptop harddrive with a 20 gig. Can this replacement be done by me? Did anyone do this at home before? Toshiba 2595cdt.

You may be disappointed as your BIOS may recognize only up to 8.4GB (depends on the BIOS and when issued). My laptop (purchased August 99) supports HDDs up to 8.4GB MAXIMUM. Can Toshiba tell you the largest HDD your laptop can use? Try and find a friend with a larger capacity HDD so you can run the experiment before you buy a large HDD you can't use.

If your HDD is in a caddy accessible without dismantling the laptop the changeout will be easy; difficult if you need to get inside the box. Consider having a HDD upgrade installed by a store that knows/will test maximum drive capacity. They install and test and you buy the drive if it works.

Good Luck,
Henry
