: Is it possible to use a ATA100 disk on a UltraDMA33 controller?
: When I connect IBM 60GXP to my GA_686BX motherboard the computer stops during IDE HDD AUTO DETECTION.

Should work. Many ATA/100 drives are shipped with ATA/100 disabled; yopu have to change the drive setting (HDD maker's utility) after you get running. I think your problem is most likely that your BIOS does not support large HDD - you may have a 32GB limit - check Gigabyte's BIOS release notes for your mainboard - maybe there is a BIOS update at:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/

BE CAREFUL with BIOS update - if you get the wrong BIOS update you will misflash your BIOS. If you find a BIOS update be sure to SAVE your old BIOS code - if the new BIOS doesn't work right you may want to go back to what you have now.

If there is no BIOS update you can get large HDD support (and ATA/100 speed) with an ATA/100 expnsion card - supports HDDs up to 128GB.

Good Hunting,
Henry
