Type 46 0r 47 is a generic name for hard drives that dont send out a unique identifier and use the esdi BM driver in Windows.

You only gain the advantage of ATA 66\100 if firstly your board has a controller that can use it and only then if you use the 80 strand data ribbon. Using the 40 even with mobo support will force the drive to use ATA 33\UDMA 3.

With all the other bottlenecks on boards at the moment it usually makes sod all difference so I wouldn't get to bothered about it.
