each time you boot the drive letters are allocated in the following way,
primary partitions first, then logical drives within any extended partitions finally CD's etc;
If you have made your new drive a primary partition it will always be assigned the next letter after any primaries it finds on the first disk. I assume your old disk has one primary and one extended partition with two logical drives and therefore the new drive is allocated drive letter D and then your new drives letters change to e and F, ok?
Use fdisk and remove the primary partition on the new drive, now make a new extended partition the full size of the drive, you can because you already have at least one primary even though its on another disk, now create one logical drive in it, again using all the space and will be assigned letter F and leave CDE in your original configuration.
