Been there, done that :-), but a long time ago, using DOS6.02 + OS/2 Warp.

Used old Norton utilities (DiskEdit or DiskDoctor or another one), which had a function to look for partitions.
It was, in the old days, with small disks and old FAT16 drives, I have not tried it with large drives/partitions nor FAT32/NTFS.

If you are experienced enough, a common tool which gives you access to the bootrecord, a proper manual and a calculator can be a big help.

Sorry for not being able to give a better help.

One piece of advice, if the data is really important, buy a disk larger than the one you currently have, copy the old disk onto the new one using a program that copies ALL (not just what is logically there), that way you can experiment and write, and still be able to go back, because most changes are permanent :-))
(You could experiment with another drives, "faking" a similar misfortune and learn what to do).
