Your BIOS will be too old to recognize a 40Gb drive and its unlikely that there is an update as its a fairly ancient BIOS.However if you go to www.seagate.com and download disk manager(you click it to create a floppy which you start your PC with). Add your new drive, start with the floppy in and follow the instructions, your BIOS will be set for you and you can even partiton and format the drive easilly and quickly with disk manager.
