I have used these drives (10Gb CX and LCT)on a project and had a small number of failures of this chip. When it goes it burns a strip across its middle and makes a mess of the PCB.

I guess the big question is whether or not the drive hardware is ok (ie motor and disks) to make a repair possible.

I have approached Quantum/Maxtor for a response to the question of spares. No reply as yet. Will add to this if i get a sensible reply.

: I HAD A SIMILAR NOISE PROBLEM, USING A 6,4 GB FIREBALL DISK, BUT CHIP TDA5247 CRASHED AND I DONīT KNOW IF ANOTHER CHIP IS AFFECTED. ANY BODY KNOW WHETHER POSSIBLE TO REPAIR MY PCB? AND WHERE COULD I GET TDA5247 CHIP OR ANOTHER PCB?

: THANKS IN ADVANCE
