When you have (and you have) made errors with a partitioning tool you need to undoe those errors with the same tool, why you used Ranish on a new drive is beyond me when fdisk is easy to use and causes no problems, however use Ranish to undoe the partition table errors and dont use EZ drive either, fdisk to create partitions and format, make sure you set the drive up in BIOS, go into auto detect drives and do just that, let it detect the configuration for a large drive or you may have to enable the int13 routine (enable LBA) to see all of the drive.
If your BIOS cant see more than 8 GB then you need an updated BIOS code, if you use a drive overlay utility (EZ) you will need to use it on all HDD on the system which entails you having to blank your existing drive so that both will work together, if you need more help read this
